Rita E. Pastore - Director of Development
Rita E. Pastore brings more than 25 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector to her position as Director of Development. An expert in the field of large-scale fundraising, Rita served for 15 years as Vice President of Boston-based Biondolillo Associates, where she was responsible for managing the national fundraising efforts of many “blue chip” nonprofit organizations. Rita developed her expertise in strategic fundraising campaigns while managing the pilot project that grew into the American Cancer Society’s $90M annual breast cancer fundraising program. She is an honors graduate of Brandeis University, a National Endowment for the Humanities Journalism Fellow, and Past President of the Big Sky Film Institute Board of Directors.
Max Bauer Jr., a Missoula native, and retired Municipal Manager for Montana for Republic Services, a national refuse and recycling company. He has received numerous awards over the years for community service and environmental excellence. Currently, in addition to ORI, he serves on the boards of the Montana Wild Sheep Foundation, the Montana Department of Environmental Quality Advisory Council, and Five Valley Lands Trust Committee; he recently completed two terms on the Missoula Aging Services Board. He reports that his years on the ORI board have been the most educational and rewarding experience of his career.
Patricia M. Baumgart
Patricia M. Baumgart has worked for Missoula County since 1978, serving as Director of Human Resources since 2011. Patty was recently appointed Collective Bargaining Representative for the Board of County Commissioners and is responsible for labor relations with ten different bargaining units. She has been a member of both the Big Sky Chapter and National SHRM (Society for Human Resources Management) since 1990 and a member of the ORI board since 1992. She previously served on the board of Missoula's chapter of Literacy Volunteers of America and volunteered for years with Missoula's first Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team. Patty is a native Montanan and a political science and public administration graduate of the University of Montana.
Tom Stocking - Treasurer
Tom Stocking was born in Whitefish and attended the University of Montana, obtaining an accounting degree from the UM School of Business Administration in 1973. He became a CPA in 1975. Since 1992 he has served as Controller for Muralt’s Management Co. before retiring in 2015. Other career highlights are: staff accountant and partner at Stover & Stover Accountants; work as an independent CPA; and managing partner for JCCS’s CPA office in Missoula. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Montana Society of CPAs, Missoula Business Builders, and the Missoula Chamber of Commerce. Tom has served as ORI Board President several times and Board Chair of the National Association of Credit Managers – Inland Northwest.
Cindy Klette is a local REALTOR® with ERA Lambros Real Estate in Missoula and has served as a director of Opportunity Resources, Inc. since 2009. She is a fourth-generation Montanan who feels fortunate to have been able to raise her family in the Missoula Valley. Prior to real estate, Cindy spent more than 22 years with Missoula County where she established and directed Missoula’s Office of Planning & Grants (OPG) which is responsible for the development and administration of public policy related to land use and human services, economic development, infrastructure and housing, plus multi-jurisdictional transportation planning, historic preservation, long-range growth policy, zoning administration and subdivision review. Cindy is passionate in her love for the Missoula community, volunteering for many community-based organizations. She is proud to support the mission of Opportunity Resources, Inc.
Board of Directors
Jamie Hoffmann received a bachelor’s degree in architecture in 1970 from the University of California at Berkeley and also attended the Brooklyn Museum Art School, Art Students’ League in New York City, and the San Francisco Art Academy. He worked in architectural offices in Berkeley, San Francisco, New York City, and Montana, before establishing his own practice in Missoula in 1977. Jamie has served on the Missoula Housing Authority Board of Commissioners for the past 11 years, serving as Chair for the past six years. He is also Chair of the North Missoula Community Development Corporation. James joined the board of Big Bear Resources in 1988 which merged with ORI in 1992. Now retired, he spends his time painting landscapes and showing his work.
Jessica Hageman - Director of Case Management
Robert Kelly is the president of Intertec, a consulting firm specializing in management, governmental affairs, communications and community relations. Bob has served on the board for many years, at times serving as the resident historian for the organization. He also has served as chair of the University of Montana Foundation, the Montana International Trade Commission, Governor's Task Force on Economic Transition, the Montana Council on Economic Education, and the Montana Centennial Commission. He enjoys being able to contribute to the effort of helping those with disabilities be involved our community on a day-to-day basis.
Joshua Kendrick - Chief Executive Officer
Joshua Kendrick was born and raised in New Hampshire and earned his bachelor’s degree at Western State College in Gunnison, CO. After college he moved to Missoula and started his career with ORI in 1998. Joshua immediately realized that working with adults with disabilities was extremely fulfilling. He also realized that the people he worked with gave him far more than he would ever be able to give in return. Over the past 17 years Joshua has held many positions – from Special Olympic/Recreation Coordinator to Director of Vocational Services to his current position as Chief Executive Officer.
Linda Pearson - Chief Human Resource Officer
Linda Pearson is the Director of Human Resources for ORI. A Montana native, she attended Eastern Montana College and the University of Montana where she received a bachelor’s degree in social work. She is a member of Big Sky Society for Human Resources Management. Beginning in 1980, she has served ORI in a variety of positions, including Training Supervisor for Team II, Supported Living Coordinator, Furniture Refinishing Supervisor, Job Coach, Placement Specialist, Staff Trainer, and Medical Coordinator.
Jessica graduated from UM with honors, earning a BA in clinical psychology focusing on resiliency in adult development. She has worked in direct care for dual diagnosis homes, developmental disability and mental health, program management of a developmental disability group home, and performed developmental disability case management for two agencies before coming to ORI as the Director of Case Management. Jessica also serves as the Chair of the Case Management Advisory Group.
Jaymie Bowditch - President
Jaymie Bowditch is an attorney and one of the managing partners of the Boone Karlberg law firm in Missoula. Jaymie has an AV Preeminent rating in the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and has consistently been named as one of the Best Lawyers in America in real estate. He became involved with ORI after serving on the state board of directors for Special Olympics Montana.
Sheila Thompson - Director of Residential Services
Sheila Thompson has a BA degree in communication science and disorders, with a minor in psychology, from the University of Montana. She also has a master’s degree in special education with an emphasis on deafness from Western Oregon University and has received training from the Institute for Applied Behavioral Analysis. Sheila began her career at ORI in residential services in 1995 and has been the Assistant Director of both Congregate Living and Supported Living. In 2014, she was promoted to Director of Residential Services. Sheila’s community involvement includes a stint as the President of the Board of Directors for Missoula International School, where she was instrumental in purchasing the school’s first permanent building, and volunteer positions for Missoula Catholic Schools, Missoula Food Bank, and Family Promise Missoula.
Barbara Simon - Vice President
Barbara Simon was raised with her only sibling, Jack, a man with autism who was served by ORI for many years. He became the rudder of her life, guiding her into a career as a teaching specialist for children with disabilities. After receiving a graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and then teaching at St. Coletta of Wisconsin, she began a long career with the Missoula Public Schools, while actively promoting community services for adults with disabilities in various organizations. Barbara has a performance degree in organ from the University of Montana and currently holds the position of organist at First Presbyterian Church. She is a lover of antiques. You can find her most Saturdays working at the checkout desk at the Montana Antique Mall.
Candace Erickson - Chief Financial Officer
Candace Erickson has held the position of CFO for Opportunity Resources since 1996. She earned a bachelor of science in business administration/accounting emphasis from the University of Montana, where she was a high honors graduate and received numerous awards for academic performance. Candace’s career began 30 years ago in the for-profit sector. She landed her first nonprofit accounting position in 1988 and now possesses more than 20 years of nonprofit accounting and auditing experience. She is a member of the Montana Society of CPAs and the American Institute of CPAs. She finds her position with ORI deeply rewarding as it allows her to use her accounting expertise to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities.
Ken Brown - Director of Specialized Services
Ken Brown, a fourth generation Montanan, serves as ORI’s Director of Specialized Services. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in psychology from the University of Montana. His career includes teaching in the behavior modification project and deaf-blind program at the Montana Development Center and as a regional clinical trainer and training contractor for the Development Disabilities Division. In 1991 he developed ORI’s Case Management Program and ran residential programs, day services, and most recently developed and directs the Specialized Services program, for people with disabilities who have sexual problems/offending behavior.
Ted Stetler and his wife Marty moved to Missoula in 1965 from the Chicago area. Ted owned and operated a family business, Western Montana Monument Services, Inc., for 38 years. During that time, he belonged to and was a board member for Pacific Northwest Monument Dealers Association, a multi-state organization composed of several western states. As a board member, Ted held all offices of the organization, as well as serving as a trustee to the national organization, Monument Builders of North America. He has served as a board member and chairman of Target Range School and as a trustee of Missoula County Consolidated Schools. He joined the ORI board in 1979 and reports he has served gladly on all board positions. He and Marty have three children, Jill, Timothy, and Keri, who has been an ORI client and employee of American Eagle Instruments for 20 years.
Barclay Nickel - Secretary
Barclay Nickel is the client representative board member and an active Missoula community member. He spends much of his time working with the Missoula Food Bank and the Missoula Children’s Theater. When he is not providing community service, he trains for the Special Olympics, participates in an all-male singing group and sings in the Missoula Community Chorus. Barclay plays an active role at ORI, including co-auctioneering for the 2015 Diamond Anniversary Gala and participating on the Autumn Fest Planning committee. Barclay currently works at the Missoula Smoke Jump Center.
Kurtis N. Mayne - Director of Vocational Services
Kurtis N. Mayne graduated from the University of Wisconsin Platteville with a bachelor’s of science degree in physical education, with a minor in health education and a certification in Adaptive Physical Education. He also received an associate degree in marketing and sales from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. Kurtis started his ORI career in 1998 as an employment consultant and has since served in several different positions within the EmployAbilities Department. In his spare time, Kurtis does everything in his power to get out in the great outdoors of Montana and enjoy all it has to offer and thoroughly enjoys traveling the world with his wife.
